TRAFFIC RULES IN PORTUGAL

It would be a shame if your trip to the Algarve for the Portugal WSBK race ended with a fine. Here are some tips to help you enjoy your visit to the Algarve International Circuit without any extra costs.

Driving side

Drive on the right side of the road and overtake on the left.

Seat belts

Seat belts are compulsory for all passengers, both in the front and rear seats.

Speed limits

  • Urban areas: 50 km/h (31 mph)
  • Rural roads: 90 km/h (56 mph)
  • Motorways: 120 km/h (75 mph)

Alcohol limit

The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.05%. For professional drivers and those with less than three years of driving experience, the limit is 0.02%.

Mobile phones

Using a mobile phone while driving is prohibited unless you are using a hands-free system.

Child safety

Children under 12 must be seated in the back and use appropriate child restraints.

Roundabouts

Vehicles already inside the roundabout have the right of way. Always signal when you’re exiting.

Toll roads

Many highways in Portugal are toll roads. Payment can be made at toll booths or electronically via Via Verde.

Parking

Only park in designated areas. Unauthorized parking may result in fines or your car being towed.
